The Midwestern Digital Model M4000 Magnetic Tape Drive Unit is typical of many of the early tape drives. This model could operate at low speeds of 25 ips (inches per second) and 5 kc data rates, up to a high of 150 isp. It could also handle both 7 and 9 track recording formats. It was made by Midwestern Digital of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
